Paper Towel Supplier: How to Set Pallet Stack Limits?

Table of Contents

B2B procurement · Specification review

Set pallet stack limits with a paper towel supplier from the actual unit-load construction, storage conditions and documented evaluation. Container space or an attractive pallet photograph cannot establish a safe stacking allowance.

This guide covers procurement specifications for palletized paper towels. Warehouse rack ratings, floor loading and safe handling require separate review by the responsible qualified personnel.

Paper Towel Supplier: identify the delivered unit load

Record the towel format first: folded packs, conventional rolls and center-feed rolls do not create the same carton contents. Add carton dimensions, board specification, gross mass, packing orientation, pallet construction, layer pattern and restraint method. These fields describe the load that will actually reach the warehouse.

A paper towel supplier should distinguish the height of one palletized load from the number of loaded pallets placed on top of one another. A container loading plan may show useful dimensions without proving that the bottom cartons can tolerate the proposed load for the required storage period.

Identify whether storage is on the floor or in racks, and whether support is continuous or limited to particular pallet contact points. Do not transfer an approval between these arrangements without technical review. Pallet capacity, rack capacity and carton resistance are different inputs to the final decision.

Which conditions belong in the evaluation?

Give the packaging specialist the intended distribution route, storage duration, expected environmental conditions and handling stages. ISTA explains that its procedures are supply-chain specific and that ocean distribution can involve humidity, handling and stacking considerations. ISTA’s ocean-transport guidance supports selecting a relevant evaluation, not assuming that one procedure covers every route.

The paper towel supplier and buyer should agree who selects the method, what samples represent normal production, and how the proposed stacking arrangement is reproduced or assessed. Record conditioning and test duration. Do not invent a universal conversion from a short compression test into months of warehouse storage.

For this review, use the actual carton closure and normal internal packing. Substituting a stronger trial carton or extra supports can make a demonstration unrepresentative. If the packaging engineer proposes a revised construction, treat it as a new specification with its own identity and purchasing implications.

What should be checked after unloading?

Inspect the bottom and intermediate layers as well as the top. Record carton bulging, corner collapse, pallet deflection and load movement using a documented inspection plan. The absence of a dramatic collapse is not enough if the delivered packs no longer fit the buyer’s handling or dispensing process.

Ask the paper towel supplier to include product checks relevant to the format. For rolls, review deformation and the ability to mount and dispense them in the intended system. For folded packs, review compression damage, pack opening and dispensing. Keep these checks distinct from any structural safety assessment.

Wrapped samples can help show the packing construction, but photographs do not establish compression resistance. Record measured observations with the sample identity and inspection timing. A damaged carton and an undamaged towel may require a different commercial disposition from a distorted roll that cannot be used.

Turn the result into a controlled warehouse instruction

The paper towel supplier record should name the approved carton, pallet, load pattern, maximum arrangement and applicable conditions. Purchasing needs the limits and the supporting report reference, rather than an unexplained statement such as stackable. Any unresolved condition should remain visible on the approval sheet.

Use a change trigger for carton board, dimensions, pack count, product format, pallet design or restraint method. A lighter carton or a different arrangement may invalidate the earlier assessment. Ask the responsible packaging specialist to decide which evaluation must be repeated before adopting the change.

Keep the receiving warehouse involved. The paper towel supplier can supply construction records and agreed evidence, while the warehouse must confirm that its equipment and storage arrangement match the approved assumptions. Do not instruct operators to improvise a loaded-pallet trial as a substitute for a qualified assessment.

What belongs in the review request?

  • Towel format, carton specification, gross mass and pallet drawing
  • Proposed floor or rack arrangement and storage duration
  • Distribution route and environmental assumptions
  • Required functional checks and the qualified approval owner

For related specification planning, review the associated Sansheng supply program. Keep the proposed product and evidence scope separate from any approval still outstanding.

Questions buyers also ask

Does a full container loading calculation establish stacking strength?

No. A space and quantity calculation does not establish compression resistance, storage durability or pallet and rack suitability.

Can two suppliers use the same limit because their cartons have the same dimensions?

Dimensions alone do not establish equivalent construction. Compare board, contents, mass, support, restraint and the evidence behind each proposed limit.
