TAD Paper Supplier: How to Approve Embossing Trials?

Table of Contents

TAD Paper · B2B procurement guide

A TAD paper supplier and converter should approve embossing through a controlled trial using the intended base grade, ply arrangement, tooling and operating window. Compare appearance with usable strength, bulk retention, ply bonding and finished-product performance. A handsome sample at one slow setting is not enough to approve a repeat production program.

For converters evaluating TAD tissue for towels or bathroom tissue. Proposed trial records are not a claim that Sansheng has validated a particular machine, tooling design or output rate.

Freeze the base paper before adjusting the embossing process

Record the incoming grade, lot, basis weight, moisture condition, width and ply construction. Identify whether the comparison changes only the embossing setting or also changes the base paper. If several variables move at once, a better-looking sheet cannot tell the buyer which change caused the result.

Ask the TAD paper supplier to provide enough traceable material for the agreed trial, including startup and repeat checks. Retain unconverted base samples alongside converted specimens. These references let the teams distinguish an incoming-material variation from an effect introduced during embossing or lamination.

Compare a usable operating window, not one attractive sheet

Record tooling identity, line speed, relevant nip settings, web tension and adhesive conditions where applicable. Use the machine maker’s safe procedures; this guide does not prescribe settings. Evaluate the beginning, stable run and later checks instead of selecting only the most attractive sample.

For a TAD paper supplier approval, include rejects, breaks and intervention notes. A condition that works briefly but requires constant adjustment may not suit the buyer’s normal production. Decide in advance which observations justify changing one variable and repeating the comparison. Keep the original records, including unfavorable observations.

Which properties should remain acceptable after embossing?

Judge embossing definition together with sheet integrity, bulk, bonding and the intended end use. Do not assume deeper embossing always improves absorbency or buyer value. A change may improve appearance while making dispensing or converting less reliable. The acceptable balance belongs to the actual product program.

ISO 12625-4 describes tensile testing for tissue products. It can support a properly designed strength comparison, but it does not supply an embossing acceptance limit. The TAD paper supplier, converter and test laboratory should specify conditioning, direction and specimen preparation so reported results remain comparable.

Turn the trial into a repeat-order approval

Keep a signed reference set and identify the approved operating range, material revision and finished format. Record what triggers another trial: a base-grade change, revised tooling, adhesive substitution, different ply arrangement or a meaningful machine change. Approval should identify both the material and the converting conditions.

Ask the TAD paper supplier to acknowledge the material fields it controls. The converter remains responsible for its own equipment settings and finished-product release. A practical approval record states what passed, what remains conditional and who may authorize deviations; it does not promise that every future line setup will behave identically.

Put these fields in the RFQ

For TAD paper supplier discussions, keep the following fields with the controlled specification rather than scattering them across messages.

  • TAD end use and base-paper revision
  • Ply arrangement and converting sequence
  • Tooling and machine constraints
  • Strength, bulk and use-performance checks
  • Trial quantity, acceptance owner and retained samples

For related formats, review tissue mother roll specifications before comparing quotations.

Questions buyers also ask

Can a flat swatch approve an embossing program?

It helps screen the material but does not reproduce the complete converting process.

Should the highest embossing depth win?

Only if the finished product also meets the agreed performance, waste and operating requirements.

Sources and scope notes

  1. ISO 12625-4:2022 — tissue tensile properties. Supports: The public abstract identifies tissue tensile, stretch and tensile-energy measurements. Limit: It does not provide embossing settings or universal acceptance limits for the buyer’s finished SKU.
  2. ASQ — Supplier Quality. Supports: A supplier-quality framework for clear requirements, evaluation and improvement. Limit: It supplies no product-specific acceptance threshold and does not verify Sansheng production results.

Request a specification-based review

Send the TAD paper supplier requirements, reference sample details, pack format, volume and destination. Identify the open decision so Sansheng can confirm the available product information and what still needs buyer or laboratory approval.
