Toilet Paper Manufacturer: How to Check Core Alignment in Multi-Roll Packs?

Table of Contents

B2B procurement · Buyer guide

A toilet paper manufacturer should evaluate core alignment on finished rolls before and after they are packed. Measure how far the core axis or opening departs from the roll center on a stable, uncompressed sample, then check whether film tension and carton pressure change the apparent shape. Record off-center cores separately from crushed rolls and telescoped winding. Buyers should approve a measured range using their intended dispenser and retail presentation rather than an invented universal limit.

This is a physical inspection method for cored retail toilet rolls. It does not cover coreless products or claim that a particular Sansheng SKU has failed or passed an alignment test.

Direct answer

A toilet paper manufacturer should evaluate core alignment on finished rolls before and after they are packed. Measure how far the core axis or opening departs from the roll center on a stable, uncompressed sample, then check whether film tension and carton pressure change the apparent shape. Record off-center cores separately from crushed rolls and telescoped winding. Buyers should approve a measured range using their intended dispenser and retail presentation rather than an invented universal limit.

Separate core position from roll deformation

Place a loose roll on a flat inspection surface and view both ends. An off-center core has a different paper wall thickness around its circumference. A roll can also look uneven because its outer layers are crushed or wound unevenly. The toilet paper manufacturer should record these observations separately before changing winding or packing settings.

The toilet paper manufacturer should use the approved roll diameter, core bore and finished width as references. Measure the core-to-outer-edge distance at several directions on both faces. If the outer roll is oval, record that too; one offset number cannot explain whether the core moved, the paper deformed or both.

Check the finished multi-roll pack

Inspect sealed packs from different cartons. Photograph the end view without squeezing the package, then open selected packs and measure the same rolls after a defined relaxation time. Compare those readings with loose production samples from the same run. This lets the toilet paper manufacturer see whether the issue begins at winding or appears under film and carton pressure.

Count defects by roll and by pack. One severely deformed roll may make an otherwise saleable pack unacceptable to a retailer. Keep film wrinkles, roll diameter loss, core offset and crushed edges as distinct defect classes; they need different corrective actions.

Confirm dispenser and shelf consequences

A core that is still within an agreed dimension may run normally in one household holder yet rub or wobble in another. Trial the pack’s actual rolls in a representative holder if fit is important to the buyer. Also view the sealed multi-roll pack from the shelf-facing side: visible unevenness can matter even when the roll dispenses.

Do not assume a centered-looking outer wrap proves core alignment. The film can conceal a displaced inner roll. Conversely, a slightly oval pack may recover when opened. State which condition is measured and which condition drives acceptance.

Approve a measurable specification

The purchase specification should name the core material, bore, roll width, nominal outside diameter and the method for calculating offset. Agree the number of packs and rolls sampled, the relaxation condition and the rejection rule. Keep a signed physical pack from the approved design.

If core supplier, winding mandrel, film tension or pack count changes, repeat the comparison. A toilet paper manufacturer should preserve loose-roll and packed-roll measurements so later complaints can be traced to winding or packaging rather than blamed on an unspecified “bad roll.”

What should buyers ask the toilet paper manufacturer?

  • Core bore, material, roll width and outside diameter
  • Core-offset measurement on both roll faces
  • Packed and loose-roll sampling locations
  • Film tension, carton orientation and relaxation condition
  • Approved sample, defect classes and requalification triggers

Questions buyers also ask

Is an oval-looking pack always an off-center core?

No. Film and carton compression can change the outside shape while the core remains centered.

Can the core be checked only through the film?

Use sealed-pack inspection for presentation, then open selected packs for the core measurement.

What offset is acceptable?

Set the limit from the approved SKU, dispenser trial and buyer presentation requirement; no universal number applies here.
